The Weekend Aquarist Releases Its 7th Issue — Available on Magzter and in Print Across India

August 2, 2025 by Press Reporter

India’s only dedicated aquarium magazine continues its mission to connect hobbyists, conservationists, those from the aquarium trade and aquascapers across the country and beyond.

Mumbai, India – Aug 1, 2025: The Weekend Aquarist, India’s first and only aquarium magazine, has released its 7th issue, now available on Magzter (Digital Edition) and in Print at www.weekendaquarist.in. Since its launch earlier this year, the magazine has been lauded for spotlighting Indian native fish, advancing aquascaping in India, and building a passionate, informed community of freshwater hobbyists.

The Weekend Aquarist Podcast, which runs parallel to the magazine, has also gained impressive momentum—crossing 2,500 subscribers and nearing 1.5 lakh views on YouTube within just six months, thanks to its in-depth interviews with renowned aquarists, conservationists, and aquarium entrepreneurs.

“It’s heartening to see a growing number of hobbyists turn to Indian native fish and biotope aquascapes,” said Amar Salvi, Editor and Founder of The Weekend Aquarist. “Each issue is a reflection of the diversity, depth, and passion within our community.”

Inside the 7th Issue: Stories from the Field, from Aquariums, and from the Heart

The current edition leads with a powerful conservation narrative by Dr. Rajeev Raghavan, whose field photo-essay “In Search of the Unseen” takes readers into the wild waters where India’s freshwater biodiversity remains largely undocumented. His story of discovering Aenigmachanna gollum, a snakehead-like fish named after Tolkien’s Gollum, offers both wonder and a call to action.

Also featured in this edition:

  • Top 10 Native Indian Fish for Nano Aquariums – by Beta Mahatvaraj
  • The Blue Zaire ‘Moba’ Frontosa – A personal account by Harkrit Singh, chronicling his love for this iconic Tanganyikan cichlid.
  • A True ‘Make in India’ Journey – Alfred Jose’s story of building a thriving aquarium brand “Azur” from the ground up.
  • Mastering Nano Aquascapes – Joy Ganguly, a former Navy Special Forces officer and aquascaping enthusiast, shares his nano philosophy and techniques.
